Nick Cave has criticised an AI chatbot’s attempt to write a song in his style, declaring that it ‘sucks’.
The Bad Seeds frontman wrote the scathing review after a fan from New Zealand sent him lyrics penned by ChatGPT – which can imitate other writers’ styles.
He thanked him but added: ‘With all the love and respect in the world, this song is bulls***, a grotesque mockery of what it is to be human, and, well, I don’t much like it.’
The bot had been directed to write a song ‘in the style of Nick Cave’, and adopted some of his typical religious imagery.
