Doubts were raised last night over whether Liz Truss will press ahead with a new Royal Yacht amid mounting claims that the family themselves do not want it.
Government sources told The Mail on Sunday that members of the Royal Family were not pushing for a successor to Britannia, which was decommissioned in 1997.
The sources said that it was felt that a new vessel costing hundreds of millions of pounds was simply not in keeping with King Charles’s view of a slimmed-down Monarchy.
