Flu makes a huge comeback in Australia as 50 children are infected at a birthday party ahead of what experts fear could be a horror season

A mass flu outbreak at a birthday party has infected about 50 children with many of them ‘dreadfully’ sick as the virus makes a resurgence.

The super-spreader party in Melbourne is the biggest recorded outbreak since the beginning of the Covid pandemic, during which cases were rare.

Experts have for months warned Australia faced a horror flu season this winter as people stop social distancing as Covid eases.

Fears were particularly high for children as they were not exposed to the flu the past two years and would have far less immunity than usual.
