Lightning has struck a major Sydney train line amid wild weather causing huge delays for commuters travelling home. 

Sydenham train station in the city’s inner west has been damaged by multiple lightning strikes as severe thunderstorms lash the area, Sydney Trains confirmed on Thursday evening.

‘Services are delayed due to severe thunderstorms and multiple lightning strikes damaging equipment at Sydenham,’ a spokesperson tweeted.

‘Stopping patterns may change at short notice. Please listen to announcements, check information screens and use transport apps for the latest service info.’
