A video that has been making the rounds on social media appears to show a white Missouri police officer slamming a 14-year-old black girl and holding her face-down as she screams. 

The cellphone recording was shared on TikTok by Sierra Smith, the teenager’s mother, a week ago. Since then, it has been viewed nearly 700,000 times on the video-sharing platform. 

‘My 14 year old daughter was the victim of this today at her school in Columbia,MO,’ Smith wrote in the caption. ‘Im [sic] making this go viral because this is not ok. The police can not treat our kids this way. #policebrutallity #justice #f***thepolice.’

The video begins with the girl, pictured in a black T-shirt and with long braids, screaming while the officer, who appears to be white, twists her arm and presses a knee into her buttocks.

‘Step back!’ he shouts at the person recording the video.

As the cop holds the teen face-down by the neck, she is heard shouting at him: ‘Don’t put your hands on me, b****! You’re going to jail, b****!’

In response to a request for a comment on the video from the DailyMail.com, Jeff Pitts, a spokesperson for the Columbia Police Department, confirmed that an unspecified ‘disturbance’ took place near Muriel Battle High School on September 28.

According to Pitts, officers were dispatched to the 7500 block of St Chares Road at 9am and detained several juveniles, who were later released to their families.

‘Due to juveniles being involved, there is no further information to provide,’ the spokesperson added.

Pitt has declined to comment on the actions of the officer in the video, or his current employment status with the department.

It is unknown at this time whether the police department has launched an internal investigation into this incident.
