  • The man was charged with nine offences and was refused bail to appear at court 










A hospital patient has been charged after allegedly threatening staff with a blood-filled syringe.

A man, aged 32, had been transferred to Maitland Hospital in the New South Wales Hunter Valley region on Monday at about 4.30pm for medical treatment when he later became aggressive towards staff, police allege.

Police say the man was asked to leave by security and was removed from the premises.

However, a short time later, the 32-year-old man re-entered the hospital and allegedly threatened security staff and a nurse with a blood-filled syringe.

The man dropped the syringe and continued to threaten staff before police arrived at the scene, it is alleged.

Officers arrested the man and took him to Maitland Police Station.

He continued to resist arrest and allegedly became abusive towards police, officers claim.

The 32-year-old was later charged with nine offences, including behaving in an offensive manner in or near a public place, three counts of being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, four counts of stalking/intimidation intending fear/physical harm and resisting police.

He was refused bail to appear at Maitland Local Court on Tuesday September 28.
