John Terry has publicly distanced himself from the Nottingham Forest job after reports claimed he was interested in replacing Chris Hughton.

The former England international left his post as Aston Villa No 2 back in July and is waiting for the right opportunity to arise to take his first managerial job.

The Sun claimed Terry was ready to throw his hat in the ring if under-fire boss Hughton was axed by Championship side Forest, but the 40-year-old has now dismissed it as speculation.

In a post on his Instagram story, Terry said: ‘I just want to distance myself from the Nottingham Forest job, and all the speculation surrounding myself with the job.

‘Unfortunately I can’t control the media, but it’s important to know it has nothing to do with me whatsoever.

‘Chris is the manager and someone I have a lot of respect for. I wish Chris and the team all the very best for the season.

‘It’s unfair when Chris is in a job to put my name to something.’

Hughton, who has previously managed Newcastle, Norwich and Brighton, is currently under immense pressure with Forest stranded to the bottom of the Championship table after taking just one point from six games.

Forest host Middlesbrough on Wednesday before travelling to Huddersfield on Saturday in what could turn out to be a pivotal week for Hughton.

Former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has also been linked to the job along with Terry, who spent two months on loan at Forest as a player back in the 1999-2000 season.

The ex-Chelsea defender however revealed last week that his intentions are to spend a year with his family before looking to break into management, but will consider opportunities as they come up throughout the course of the season.

‘Obviously [I’m] always waiting [for a management job],’ he told Sky Sports.

‘But the idea was to step away, spend a year with the family and then see what comes up.

‘We’re a month into the season, I’m sure jobs will come up and I’m there and waiting and doing what I need to do in the background.

‘But if not, I’m enjoying my time with my family.’
